We know blocked drains caused by several things and reasons – some are simpler than others to improve.

Below are things which you can try first before calling any plumbers in your area.

You just have to boil water

The slow drain will make you frustrated at the same time you will get annoyed by it. However, for the drain that is taking more time to clear than it should – you can use the trick! Just boil water in the kettle and pour it down the drain while it is too hot. But, this only applies when there is a light and small blockages in the drain, other serious problems require also different method.  Remember, the method is best to use only on metal pipes because the boiled water can soften as well as it could damage the PVC pipes.

Make a DIY drain cleaner

Some DIY cleaner may perhaps surprise you as it is easy to make and may be effective especially for clearing accumulated grease in the pipes. The solution takes all in some vinegar and bicarbonate soda.

Now, here is the tip of what to do!

Drop the half cup of bicarbonate soda into the drain and then pour a half cup of vinegar. When bicarbonate soda and vinegar react it will cause bubble and fizz. So you have to make sure when it is fizzing you have direct it down the drain – ensure to cover over it. Let it for 30 minutes before flushing with fresh water. When you applied it into the toilet gives it a flush as soon as starts foaming – this method will save your time calling any plumbers.

Plunger

Perhaps, most of you have a cup plunger sitting in your sideboard somewhere. When you have not, they are available at any hardware stores near you. The plungers are a big help in loosening up the blockages by using nothing than suction. The trick is to get a clear seal around the entrance to the drain. This way it maximises the suction and then plunges away – try to put some serious push grease into it.

When it comes to the blocked toilet, the round cup plunger is not a good deal shape to get the good seal for maximum suction.

Drain Snake

This is simply a length of flexible rubber or metal that is inserted into the drain in an attempt to remove or pull out any items that may be causing obstruction. The procedure can be effective if you think the drain is blocked with tangled hair.

The drain snake is available also in any hardware stores, or you can make your own drain snake using wire coat hanger. Ensure you don’t damage the pipes by getting too strong with your actions.

Using chemical drain cleaners

Another option is using chemical drain cleaners, however, be careful as these can do harm instead of good. These chemical drains can be very toxic; it can damage pipes and would not clear every type of blockage. Also, if it won’t work, probably it left with drain full of toxic drain cleaner.

If none of the above does not work and the blockage won’t budge then that is the time you have to call plumbers or plumbers within your area.
